About the Author

A self-described “bookmaker", Ellen Raskin is a Newbery-Medal-winning author and illustrator. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1928, she began her career as a graphic artist and illustrator after earning her degree in fine arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During the first fifteen years of her career, she designed numerous book covers, notable among which was the dust jacket for the first edition of Madeline L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time.
