What is the effect of V’s mask on your reading experience? How do you feel when you see it, and how does it make V different from the other characters?
Unlike the other characters, V’s mask obscures his facial expressions. With Evey, Finch, Rosemary and the other characters, the images give facial cues about how they are feeling and the tone of their words. V’s face is inscrutable. It can make additional work for the reader to add tone and imagine facial expressions with V’s words. Students may feel frustrated that they cannot read V’s face the way they can other characters.
