Most of Jamaica Kincaid's books deal with the history and culture of Antigua and the Carribean diaspora. In Lucy, the title character is a young West Indian nanny in the United States. Annie John is about a girl coming of age in Antigua. After A Small Place, Kincaid wrote several novelistic memoirs about members of her family: Autobiography of My Mother (a fictionalized account of her mother's life), My Brother (about her brother who died of AIDS), and Mr. Potter (about her father).
