Introduction to Burnt Shadows

Burnt Shadows is a novel by Pakistani-British novelist Kamila Shamsie. Published in 2009 by Bloomsbury Publishing, the novel follows two families over the course of the second half of the twentieth century. Set in Nagasaki, Japan during World War II, in Delhi during the partition of India, in Pakistan, in New York City during 9/11, and in Afghanistan, Shamsie explores characters living through different global events over the course of recent history.
