    How did Bonnie and Twill learn their survival skills? Why is this important?

    Though they have no knowledge of how to survive on the run, the two runaways from District 8 try to keep themselves alive by making pine needle tea, which they say they learned from watching someone do it on the Hunger Games broadcasts. Though this is a small detail, it is interesting: it means the Capitol is inadvertently helping its subjects be more self-sufficient. Bonnie and Twill use the Capitol's tool of oppression to save themselves — they watch the Games because they have no choice, but in doing so they learn skills that make them more likely to survive.
