Winterbourne is puzzled by Daisy's behavior and attempts to categorize her as a way to understand her actions. He compares her to an Italian woman by saying that Giovanelli would never have invited a lady from his own country to walk the streets with him. Daisy replies that she's glad she doesn't need to follow the same conventions as their lives seem awfully dull to her. This leads Winterbourne to pointedly say that Daisy is a flirt.
