Henry V
Henry V is the King of England and at the beginning of the film he has made a claim to be rightful heir to the throne of France currently held by Charles VI. When Charles scorns his claim, Henry goes to war in order to take it. We watch as he wins great battles, but ultimately must marry Katherine, Charles' daughter in order to give his future heir a right to the throne of France.
The Chorus
The Chorus is the narrator of this film. He is inserted into the picture in order to provide us with details as to what has happened. Shakespeare used this character as a way of getting around the fact that he couldn't perform great battle scenes on the theatre stage. Thus, The Chorus provides the missing pieces for the audience.
Duke Thomas Beaufort of Exeter
The Duke is Henry's uncle and his royal counsel. He goes to war with Henry in order to obtain the throne for his nephew. The Duke is always one of the first to ride into battle and is loyal to Henry as he catches Scroop, Grey and Cambridge in their plot to kill the King and executes them for high treason.
Bardolph
Bardolph is a commoner who made friends with Henry years before he was King. He goes to war with the King, but after their first battle he is accused of looting a church which is an offense punishable by death. Henry is told of this and though Bardolph is his friend he lets him hang for his crime of being a thief.
Pistol
Pistol is a commoner who was once married to Nell Quickly. She has gone on to marry his friend, Nym and Pistol is ready to kill him for it though the two never come to blows. He goes to battle with Henry and while the King walks the campsite at night in disguise comes upon Pistol. It is in this moment that Pistol speaks of his love for the young King. He lives through the battles, but loses his friends Bardolph and Nym to the war.
Nym
Nym is Nell Quickly's second husband and Pistol's friend. He is eager to defend his honor when Pistol accuses him of doing him wrong for marrying his ex-wife. He goes to battle with Henry to fight for the King's right to the French throne, and on the way loses one of his best friends, Bardolph who is hung for looting a church and Nym himself is killed in battle while trying to take money off of a dead soldier on the battlefield.
Robin
Robin is a young commoner boy who is friends with Nym, Pistol, Bardolph and Nell Quickly. He goes to battle with all of the men in order to be of service to them in war. But a French soldier kills the young boy, breaking the rules of engagement as soldiers are not supposed to kill the young. His body is carried by Henry to a wagon full of dead after the battle on St. Crispin's Day.
