La Jetée Irony

La Jetée Irony

Holding On

Davos has held on to a moment from his past his entire life. So much so that he returns to it at the end of the film. Ironically, by holding on to a moment from the past he chooses to return to his own murder scene rather than go to the future. It represents humanities need to move forward rather than remain locked in the past.

Prisoner

Davos is a criminal in post-World War III France. Ironically, he is the choice to attempt time travel, not because he is the most qualified but because he is expendable.

Past or Future

Davos has the choice to go to the future where he has a band of friends who will help him or to return to his childhood memory that's gripped him his entire life. Ironically, his choice to return to the past leads to his death as he is assassinated by the men of the present.

Memory

Davos travels back in time to a moment in his life on The Jetty at the airport believing he must reconnect with the woman from that day. Ironically, it isn't the woman who stood out to him, but the reality that it was him being murdered.

Death

Davos is able to travel through time in order to help the people of the present escape the horrors of World War III. Ironically, he is still sentenced to death simply because he is a criminal even though he's made a major contribution to the world.
