La Jetée Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Long Path

We see Davos with the woman from his past as they walk through the streets. We see them in a garden with a long path of trees ahead of them. This is a symbol that this is a moment that seems to exist forever for Davos and it fits with his hopes that it will never end.

Statues

We see statues of women and men during Davos time travel. It is a symbol of how he has been able to freeze time as for him he doesn't belong simply to the present anymore but to the past and the future just like these statues.

Real

Davos travels in time and sees real children, birds, bedrooms. This is a symbol that the time travel has worked and is no longer theory but reality.

Strength

We watch as many men attempt to time travel but are unsuccessful in doing so. Then we see Davos in a close up with wild eyes filling the frame. This is a symbol that he is the man that will have the strength to do it and to save his people.

Uneasy

The image of the man being killed at The Jetty has stood out to Davos his entire life as he hasn't been able to understand its impact upon him. It is a symbol of the end of his life and how no one recognizes when their time will come, many times even when it is happening right before them.
