What was your reaction to the shift in setting? Why do you think Shaw chose to make such a dramatic shift?
Some students may have been thrown by the move to the Sierra Nevadas, wondering if they were still in the same play, since it took a while for any characters we recognized to appear. The tone also seemed to have shifted, although one might argue that the tone was similar, the subject different. Shaw might have chosen this dramatic shift to catch his audience's attention, or to give him leave to move into material slightly goofier and more surreal.
