Why does Maiguru leave? Was it the right thing to do?
Maiguru spends much of the novel working for other people. She tends to her husband, and she works for her children. During the Christmas holiday, she works the hardest of all the twenty-plus people on the homestead. After the wedding, Maiguru has had enough. “I am tired of being nothing in a home I am working myself sick to support” (174). She feels that despite her education and wealth, she is still nothing in her home. She is still treated like nothing. Some students will feel Maiguru had every right to leave. She needed to make a point, and by leaving, she could show Babamukuru how it feels to not have her waiting...
