The irony of O’Neil
O'Neil is Fallon's father, who is expected to give her confidence to face the world despite her flaws. Ironically, the father discourages Fallon from pursuing her acting career because she has scars on her skin. According to Mr. O'Neil, Fallon is not gorgeous due to the 30 percent burns she endured during the house fire accident. Therefore, Mr. O'Neil concludes that her daughter should forget about acting and think of something else.
The irony of Benton
Since Fallon knew Benton, she deeply fell in love with him, and she never thought that he could have done anything to hurt her. Ironically, with time, Fallon discovered that Benton had set their house on fire. According to Benton, the incident was an accident because he wanted to punish Mr. O'Neil for having a sexual affair with his mother.
The irony of love
Love is ironic, and it surpasses all obstacles. Despite Fallon learning the harsh truth that Benton set their house on fire, where she sustained serious burns, she decides to forgive him because of love. In addition, Benton breaks Fallon's heart when he marries his brother's widow. However, Fallon again forgives him because she is in love with him. Therefore, love can make someone make unexpected decisions, such as forgiveness.
