Ready Player One is a dystopian science-fiction novel published in 2011 by American novelist and screenwriter Ernest Cline. The story draws heavily from iconic elements of 1980s American culture, but it is set in a near-future alternate reality in which an internet-like immersive simulation called the OASIS has become an integral part of society, with the simulation functioning as a realistic, virtual society.
