LV
LV is Little Voice, Mari's daughter. She is as quiet as a mouse, except that when no one is looking she sings and does impressions that knock Ray's socks off. Indeed, he is so astounded that he signs her up to perform in clubs. She hates being in the spotlight and the more she sings at the club the less she is herself. She eventually confronts her mother for neglecting her father and treating her like garbage. She also falls for the telephone boy, Billy.
Mari
Mari is LV's mother. She wants Ray Say to marry her and sweep her away for the rest of her life. She lets Ray manage LV and create a career for her. However, Ray leaves Mari at the end of the play saying that she isn't fit to be with him as she is a drunk and past her prime. She doesn't take care of her daughter, only looking after herself.
Ray Say
Ray is a talent manager who is dating Mari. He mostly handles low-level talent such as strippers but senses his break through with LV. He pushes her to sing, manipulating her for his benefit until he pushes to far and she pushes back on him. He throws Mari away and leaves them both for good.
Billy
Billy is a telephone repair man. He's young and has fallen for LV. He comes up to her room nearly every night in the cherry picker from the telephone company's truck to see her outside her window. He loves lighting and lighting design and knows that LV doesn't want to be famous and sing in front of people. He creates a light show for her at the end of the play so that she can sing the way she wants to sing.
Mr. Boo
Mr. Boo runs a night club that Ray frequents to bring talent. He signs LV on to perform night after night, and only desires her to come back because she makes people pour into his club, which makes him money.
Sadie
Sadie is Mari and LV's neighbor. She hardly speaks throughout the play but she is constantly with them through their trials.
