The Rise and Fall of Little Voice Metaphors and Similes

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice Metaphors and Similes

Wiped

LV is seen lying on her bed wiped out from performing. She's been singing night after night and it should be inspiring her as it is her gift, but because it is not this is a metaphor for the fact that when a gift is misused it drains the life out of the person giving it away.

No More Music!

Mari bangs on the ceiling with a broom handle to tell LV to stop playing her music. This is a metaphor for how Mari shuts her daughter's voice down constantly. She never wants to hear LV express herself and doesn't give her the chance to do so.

Billy

Billy is a young man who has a talent with lights, and creating lighting designs. He even creates one for LV. His doing this is a metaphor for how a human being can bring a metaphorical light into the darkness of someone's life and reveal who they truly are before they ever see it in themselves.

Dry Cleaning

Mari was supposed to pick up a new dress for LV's performance but forgot to get it as she had been drinking. It is a metaphor for the fact that none of what she is doing is for her daughter, but instead to please Ray, a man who is seemingly disgusted with her.

Records

LV plays her records loudly in her bedroom and her mother hates it. The records are a metaphor for LV having a voice in her life to speak back to her mother, who never listens to her.
