The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a mixture of comedy and horror based on the musical and the book of the same title, directed by Jim Sharman. The movie is a satiric take on the movies from the first half of the twentieth century, with horror and science fiction genres entangled with comedy. It was released in 1975.
The movie’s plot centers around a couple who seek shelter in a castle owned by a man transvestite scientist. Their stay there is filled with strange occurrences and the couple both being seduced by the scientist, who himself is occupied with the creation of life in the form of Rocky.
The movie explores important themes of gender identity and sexuality and a lot of its avid followers consist of the members of the LGBTQ community. Since its release, the movie has become a cult classic with a large following all over the world.
