There are many reasons this nonsensical and humorous film has gained a significant cult following. Firstly, the film has memorable characters, such as Dr. Frank N. Furter, played by the great Tim Curry. As well as this, the film has some very catchy music, including the well-known song "The Time Warp."

The Rocky Horror Picture Show has many similarities to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, most obviously in Dr. Frank N. Furter's creation of Rocky, which mirrors Dr. Frankenstein's creation of the monster in Shelley's text. The similarities between the two texts are significant, as it contributes to the overall intention of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was to parody horror films. As such, it draws upon some well-known features of horror writing.

Why did Frank N. Furter create Rocky?
Frank claimed to have created Rocky as he was feeling lonely and wanted a lover. After discovering the "secret to life itself," he creates Rocky in order to have some companionship, revealing his intentions to Janet and Brad. However, things don't go entirely according to plan for Frank N. Further as the film continues.
