Do we see Gooper and Mae differently at the end of the play, or have they always been this way?
Gooper and Mae will likely seem more mercenary to students than they did at the beginning of the play—what seemed like simply a rivalry between sisters-in-law now looks like a full-scale desire for Big Daddy to die so that they might inherit. Some students may note that we've now seen how poorly both Big Mama and Big Daddy treat Gooper, so to some degree they might see his feelings and actions as justified, but there's no denying that they have much more interest in the money and estate than in Big Daddy himself.
