    Messenger Scene

    Creative Writing

    Objective:

    Students will be able to understand and analyze the events of the story as well as building playwriting skills

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.3

    Structure:

    Using this link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4fCh5aOs0o ), show students the portion of the play where the Messenger gives the news of the princess’s death. Start the video at 1:00:41.

    Explain to students that the Messenger’s words are a monologue, a long speech by an actor in a play. Monologues appear at several points in Medea. Ask students if they can remember another monologue.
