Describe the character development of Chuck. Compare and contrast his character from the beginning of the novel to his depiction at the end.
Chuck is portrayed as a naive child in the beginning of the book. He does what he is told, doesn't ask too many questions, and tries to think positively about his circumstances. When he meets Thomas, he is enamored with his bravery. He begins looking at Thomas as a role model, which is what eventually leads him to sacrifice himself for Thomas in the end. He does just what Thomas would have done if Chuck were in danger, protect his friend at all costs.
