By this point in the book, the Grievers have come two nights in a row. The boys are well aware of the Variables and have witnessed the capture of two Gladers, Gally and Adam. Do you agree or disagree with their plan to continue to hide in the Homestead and take comfort in the fact that only one of them will be targeted?

Students may agree that the Gladers made a wise choice by grouping together in the Homestead in hopes that only one of them would be taken instead of trying to fight back and losing more of their members.
