In chapter 12, we first hear about the Jewish boy attacked by his peers. Although it originally seems that the boy was attacked because of his resistance to The Wave, Laurie's father wonders if his being Jewish might have had anything to do with it, as well.

Ask students: what is the most appealing thing about The Wave? It's likely the fact that students have a group they can join that doesn't distinguish between them.
