Jules et Jim Irony

Jules et Jim Irony

War

Jim and Jules are best friends; they wouldn’t harm each other, ever. Ironically they must fight on opposite sides of World War I as they are from different countries.

Therese

Therese asks Jules if he would put her up for the night. Ironically, she leaves with another man the very next day in front of him.

Swapping

On the street, someone asks for a light from a man. Ironically, it is Catherine dressed up as a man. This scene reveals her taking on the role of a man in social behavior.

Marriage

Jules wants to marry Catherine. Ironically, Catherine is a woman who is restless and who, though she marries Jules, cheats on him regularly.

Fool

Jim has been threatened by Catherine with a gun. Ironically, he gets in a car with her and she drives them off a bridge.
