Chapter 14 - Introduction to Metabolism - Exercises - Page 476: 11

Answer

1 Mol of palmitate has 16 mol of carbon atoms On complete oxidation it produces : 8 mol Acetyl CoA, 7 mol NaDH and 7 mol FADH2 Each mol acetyl Co A = 10 ATP, 1 NADH = 2.5 ATP, 1 FADH2 = 1.5 ATP 2 ATP is used for the activation of Palmitate So total ATP yield: = 8(10)+7(2.5) + 7 (1.5) - 2 = 106 ATP
